. so glad they brought caliber (the dog) along for this shoot . i love this shot ! once we got him put (or should i say he got where he wanted to be), it was literally seconds and he was asleep, every time .

. it was so good to see this adorable family again . here's their photos from last year, in my makeshift home studio . i couldn't help but be thankful yet again for this great studio space . so much more room to have fun, and no icky backdrops . have i mentioned how much i don't love backdrops ? anyway, on with the cute family .

. you saw them last year here . we had just as much fun this year . little aja has grown and changed so much and it was so fun to see her little personality . these guys drive a few hours to come have their photos taken . yes, they did see family while they were here too, but the main reason was for family photos . i feel so honored !

. this shot instantly reminded me of the one i got of them snuggling last year . it was one of the shots that were up in the studio window all summer, remember it ?

. a few weeks ago i did a shoot for mylei's family and i couldn't get enough of her, so i asked her to come back . and i'm so glad i did . she was a little shy to start off with even though she was excited about it . it is intimidating having that big camera pointed at your face and you feel pressure to perform . i get it .

. so we just played .

. and danced . mom got in the mix for a few minutes to help loosen her up .

. it worked .

! the hair !

. this is exactly what i was wanting out of this little lady . she had so many great expressions, we just played and danced and talked and they finally started to come .

. i wish i could remember what i said to her, but it took her by surprise, can you tell ? those big, beautiful eyes !

. it's almost more than i can take . her eyes were not enhanced in photoshop at all . completely natural .

. and another fun change of clothes (they did awesome picking out fun outfits!) .

. and she learned 'i love you' in sign language .

. so i think i have three favorites and these next two are two of them .

. have you ever played hand slapping games and taken photos . i have now ! it's tricky, but you get this kind of expression when you do !

. met this great family on a cool winter morning, just after a skiff of snow . a little more would have been perfect for the photos, but we made it work .

. laura and i go way back, okay, not way back, but probably back to 1998 or so . right after i graduated from high school i had a dog grooming business . it didn't take me long to figure out that wasn't really what i wanted to do with my life . laura saw an ad maybe, can't remember that part, but she ended up learning the trade from me and continuing the business and then went on to start a grooming shop at her own home . so, that's our story . i just love her and think she is crazy beautiful ! this session was not all about her, but when a friend of mine comes looking this pretty i can't help myself .

. love that laugh ! seriously, the one on the right should be framed and hung !

. these will be christmas presents for dad, i think he's going to love them .

. tyler . such a nice kid . i think my camera (or maybe it was me) intimidated him a little, but he's an awesome kid . didn't have a lot of time with him, but the two times we have chatted he comes off quite intelligent .

. the vossen family came home (iowa) for thanksgiving and scheduled a family shoot while they were in the area . such a sweet little family . i had such a great time capturing their love .

. it's getting cold out so we're shooting in studio more than normal . the strange thing is i'm liking it more, i thought it was going to go the other way . it's causing me to look more at faces and interactions and positions rather than backgrounds . i like that .

. so, here's the adorable smith family . tanya is a neighbor of mine in riverside, she has the exhale hair salon in town . her families hair is definitely stylin ! that little mylei's (little missy on the left) hair suits her to a t ! i love it . you'll be seeing her again soon !

. i said it on fb, but really, it was almost too much to watch all this cuteness in their jammies walk through the door ! i had so much fun with it . wearing my jammies to work was another perk . i want to say a big thank you to a few that helped me pull this together: my wonderful mother-in-law for making the beautiful christmas cookies, my ever supporting mom for helping the day flow smooth by handling the paper end of things and my cousin bridget for being my assistant and props girl ! without you 3 things wouldn't have gone near as smooth !

. the longer i do photography the more i realize that you never know what's going to walk through the doors when you schedule a shoot . it's always a surprise . good thing i like surprises, huh ? and i have to say, i've rarely been disappointed, i have such great clients to work with . on that note, meet this cute little family . they were so fun to watch interact .

. my main goal of my photography is to portray love and happiness . in my mind that is perfection, as opposed to the perfectly posed with the predictable smiles . nothing wrong with those photos, they just aren't what i love to capture .

. and this couple is fabulous . the last time they had family photos done was when their daughter (who is grown) was in 1st grade . so glad they decided that now was the time .

. aren't they a good looking couple . style, i'm telling you . i loved every outfit nancy brought, and we only used a few of them . she has fabulous taste .

. i'm beginning to learn a have a little sway as the photographer . if i say the shirt looks better untucked, they'll leave it . if i say we need a photo of just mom and dad, they do it ! such power i have . i think dean looks great with that shirt untucked .

. they didn't really want photos of their hands, but for some reason their body language spoke volumes to me and the hands just happen to be in the shots !

. so after working from the kitchen island (which i ~~mention~~ went on and on about here) for a while now, we've finally gotten around to setting up with a home office . this is only a peek, i'll be sure to share photos when it's all done, but that'll be a week or so . things are busy and i have quite a bit more that i want to do to it to finish it off . just excited and wanted to share it with you .

. sunday looked like it was going to rain all day long . but since saturday had done the same thing and i was able to get two shoots in i decide we'd go for this one too . it worked out beautifully . i met natalie and her family at palisades state park, which was absolutely beautiful . to top things off her drum set was set up in the middle of the beautiful fall foliage .

. amazing, right ?

. natalie is very athletic so the shoes and sportswear fit her perfect .

. one of the biggest reasons why natalie wanted this location for her photos is because she came to this park a lot of times with her family as a child and she has great memories of this place . we recreated a photo of natalie with her mom and dad . in the old photo natalie was 2 . i wish i had the other one to put next to this one . but i think we got it !

. downtown washington is so picturesque all year, but especially the fall . kevin, chrys, keverly and curtis came in their fall colors and with smiles and we were set .

. i love this family, as you know if you've read this blog for very long . i did gibb's 6 month shoot, his newborn shoot, and a few pre-gibbs photos . i should mention the week before both boys (chris and gibbs) got bonked on the head and there was a bit of wonder if the shoot would happen because of all the wounds . they healed, (mostly) and the shoot was on .

. oh my . i'm in love...

. you know this is one of my favorite poses, right ? gibbs worked it with that tongue sticking out .

. these are faces of parents that know how very blessed they are with their little gift from God .

. so i was never so glad to be shooting friends on tuesday morning because i felt very not-put-together . i was almost late to the shoot and my car was on E...so after we left the studio i had to go fill the car up with gas, so chris and em were going to be to the next location before i arrived . em said she was glad because she wanted to surprise me with a drink anyway . so we drank our pumpkin spice latte and while gibbs napped a little in the car we browsed a cute little shop . after gibbs woke we headed to the park for some fall foliage photos . a fun little photo shoot break . should i make these mandatory ?

. gibbs loved pounding on daddy, we encouraged it .

. then moved along to the location that chris scoped out for us .

. i love this girl, and i love seeing her as a mommy . she's seriously, one of the best !

. sunday afternoon at sunset park was caarazy . the weather was beautiful, the fall foliage was at it's peek and christmas cards are just around the corner, all of this adds up to a busy park full of photographers and families . glad i was there though, having a good time with this family .

. fun morning with the diers family last week . and our setting couldn't have been prettier . these fall days as well as the fall color have been spectacular for photos . which is what everyone is thinking . at sunset park yesterday i was one of probably 5 photographers . :) it's definitely family photo time !

. while waiting for everyone to finish getting ready i couldn't help myself, i had to capture this setting . cute lil kitty wondering what i'm doing in her house . and speaking of this house, i love it . it's old with lots of character .

. ted and edie made me laugh . ted liked to visit while i took his photo (which i like to do too), but edie wanted him to stop talking and smile .

. the other part of the family . don't you just love their front porch setting . and these puppies liked my noise i make to get them to look at the camera . the best part is it usually gets smiles out of the people too because it's strange . :)

. believe it or not, i kept the names straight during this shoot, all but once . but they kyle and kelly said they mix them up too, so no biggie !

. this family is super fun and it was so much fun to capture their excitement .

. kenady loves having her picture taken so she was all 'cheeeeeese' .

. and kayce wasn't all about it, but we did get a few smiles, isn't she a doll .

. kenady said "cheeese sarah" all the time, i loved it !

. kenady is the second child i've taken photos of that hasn't liked smarties . although kenady just doesn't like candy in general . but that didn't mean we couldn't use it, she fed some to daddy, to mommy and even some to sarah .

. and this is bound to happen at least once in an hours time with a toddler, right ?

. today we had a little impromptu photo shoot . it took about 10 minutes and wasn't something we knew we were going to do until a little before it happened . i love being spontaneous ! and they needed no time to prepare...they totally brought the love .

. their love kind of reminded me of a country song . so young, so in love, so vibrant about life, baby on the way, he farms...

. my photographer friend, laura, and her family made it down to the studio on saturday for some fun family shots . i love laura and was so anxious to do this shoot . it wasn't your typical family shoot either, more on that in a second though . it was raining so we were stuck inside, but we made the best of it !

. they were a happy bunch and caleb was providing constant entertainment through the entire session .

. these are my favorite kind of shots . i love the feeling i get when i look at them . happiness . love . connection . life .

. and all the credit for this fabulous idea goes to laura . the big trend in wedding photography is 'trash the dress', right ? so laura had this brilliant idea to do a 10 year anniversary shoot and trash her wedding dress, although it was in no way "trashed", but we're not done yet either ! outside shoot to come !

. this was just so fun and meaningful . don't they look great...after 3 kids and 10 years !

. and lucky for them the kids were just in a wedding so had all the fancy duds as well so everyone got to work it !

. a while back i put out a message on my FB page to anyone i've taken photos for to work on some wall arrangements together . i was interested in a few different spaces to display different ideas . april was the first wall to get finished for this project and it went quite well . she's amazing with the drill ! i provided the photos and she provided the frames .

. we chose colorful photos since she has a lot of light colors going on in her living room . i suggested frameless frames and she loved the idea . we thought square photos would work well in this space so measured and decided on 20x20 . keeping them an inch apart gives the idea of one big element on the wall with the variety of 4 images .

. we both love how it turned out .

. as a side note if you're interested in frameless frames just like these, let me know . they are great quality at a reasonable price .

. it's a digital age we live in and i have to say i sell a crazy amount of discs compared to anything else . with this being the case, i feel the need to stress how to use these discs of high resolution photos so that you will be able to enjoy quality photos . it's easy to take them into wal-mart since you're there picking up stuff for supper, but i have to say that if you do this, you will most likely be disappointed with your photos . since i don't recommend you do this, i'll tell you what i do recommend . i would like to offer up a few labs that i feel do quality work at a reasonable price in the event you don't order prints through me . mpix.com is the #1 lab i recommend . not only does this lab provide quality products at a reasonable price, but also many options such as calenders, canvases, greeting cards, and oh so much more . definitely worth looking into .

. i know i'm being redundant as i tell most all of you who order discs from me this information, but i feel it can't be stressed enough .

. another great option in this digital age is a photo book . these are great for archiving a year of snapshots or a session of lifestyle photos . they are generally reasonably price and are as fun to flip through as the old fashioned photo album . my favorite place to order these through is mypublisher.com, but there's also shutterfly.com, blurb.com and again, mpix.com (actually a lot of these sites overlap) . if you're new to these sites you may need to download software, but it's all very user friendly, so don't be intimidated .

. if you're looking to order cards, and with the holiday season coming upon us i'm sure you're thinking christmas cards, or any other cards to use your photos on, check out tinyprints.com . super cute stuff on there !!

. this was our second sitting with bright futures chiropractic, but this one was outside . which is much more my style ! wasn't sure this was ever going to happen, i can't remember how many times we had to reschedule ! but so glad it finally happened ! our goal was outside shots and a few new shots were needed since their team has changed a bit . i said it last time, but i always enjoying this group of people and this session was no different .

. i've posted about this before here . so if you never got the chance to read it, go do so . i have been asked a lot lately what families should wear, how to match and all and so i went looking for something that i found a while back . here it is . and another here, specifically on how to match your outfits . good stuff and i agree with everything she says ! if you are unsure, feel free to bring options along and i'd love to help you decide what looks best .

. another thing i don't think i can reiterate enough is to relax and enjoy our time together . i know, when you think of family shoots you don't think "ah, relaxing", and i do get that . but i guarantee if you relax and just enjoy your loved ones it will show in the photos and you'll love the photos more than if you're worried about the dirt on your sons pants ! and when he's 22 you're going to love looking back at that photo when he had dirt on his pants . :) . am i right ?

. what miracles .

. elissa and elena were born June 30th, and their due date is still not yet upon us . they were due september 24th ! both girls were oh so tiny, i don't remember exactly how much they weighed, but one was just a pound and i think the other was just over 2 . so at 2 and a half months they are the size of a normal newborn, elissa is just over 6 pounds !

. isn't she precious resting in daddy's arms . elissa may get to go home this week if all goes well .

. elena has a little further to go, but it sounds like she's a fighter so hopefully she won't be there too much longer .

. big brother and big sister are waiting for everyone to come home .

. okay, so if you're a fan of . snp . on facebook you've most likely already seen these, but they are so special i wanted to do a post about them too . brooke stayed last week and while she was here we decided to do a new brand shoot for me (photo above in header and below in post...and more to come soon) . so we did that and then later, while shopping at the mall we started talking about doing one for her business too . about 4 hours later this was us . we discussed what look she wanted (anthropologie) and shopped for the right outfit and accessories, came home...cleaned out my house of anything that might work (and was different than my shoot) and went to the nearest abandoned house and here you have it .

. it was a whirlwind with finding sticks to bundle, taking photos out of frames and replacing them with ripped cardboard, painting toenails, carrying out tables, going through scrapbook letters to find the right "b" . whew, but i couldn't have loved the outcome any more .

. love this one below !

. oh, and quite possibly....my fav !

. she's so beautiful and totally worked it out there . what you can't see is that in between each shot she was swatting mosquitos . they were awful ! between those and the bush of burrs i crouched down in we decided we were pretty dedicated ! we both agreed it was so worth it !

. this shoot was possibly my favorite i've ever done . i got to not only watch, but photograph abigail brooke enter into this world in the comfort of her own home . circumstances were so that i would most likely have missed it, but i truly believe God arranged my day perfectly so that i could witness this amazing experience . any faithful readers know that holly is a close friend of mine and you may even feel like you know them after seeing so many photos of them and their adorable daughter, alannah . for holly to ask me to be a part of abigail's birth made my...maybe year !
